Samovar

Still working on "Samovar". I was feeling nostalgic about my past homes in Europe, the slavic culture, painters like Kuzma Petrov Vodkin and Boris Kostadiev, my friends artists in Bulgaria. I wanted to make a romantic cubist picture. I was driven by diffrent painting techniques and styles. Every element I rendered diffrently. For example the villiage, seen through the window, is done in the old iconographic tempera tradition, this technique is allowing going deep into detail. The samovar was the hot golden heart of the composition and I did with oil and glazes. The girl's shawl is done with rough impresionistic brush strokes. It is very difficult to bring diffrent techniques in harmony. I guess my thoughts and feelings are mixed and I couldn't clarify them easily into a coherent piece.
Work in progress. It is an old painting that I finally have time to finish. Oil paint needs time to dry. Normaly, I start with acrilic and finish with oil to skip the long wait for the layers to dry.
